Te Āwhioraki
Te Āwhioraki is an organisation which represents all Māori students on-campus and is managed and run by Māori students according to its constitution. Te Āwhioraki operates on the Lincoln University campus with the constant building and maintaining of relationships with Māori academic, administration, support and logistical staff. Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi is prevalent throughout our constitution as determined by Te Āwhioraki membership of Te Mana Ākonga (National Māori Student Association). As a collective of iwi descendants from both near and afar we acknowledge our gracious hosts and mana o te whenua, Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki of Taumutu and strive to complement the tikaka, mana and aroha that is renowned throughout the landscapes of the area and reinforced in the relationship between Lincoln University, Ngāi Te Ruahikihiki and Ngāi Tahu Whānui.
Concomitant with Te Tiriti o Waitangi/The Treaty of Waitangi relationship, Te Awhioraki works alongside the Lincoln University Student Association (LUSA) advocating for all students and providing them with an independent student voice, whilst supporting all domestic, International and critically Pasifika students with whom we share a common past, present and challenging future. Te Awhioraki has a seat on the University Council, Māori Development Task Force and LUSA Executive therefore providing a strong voice for Māori student issues. Te Awhioraki provides social, cultural and academic support to students during their stay at Lincoln. It also organises social events, kapa haka, wananga and workshops which enhance and promote a Māori identity within the University.
